From Jan. to May 2012, the total local government expenditures of Shanghai Municipality amount to RMB 147.14 billion, up 23.3% from the previous year, representing 36.5% of the budget goal for 2012.

During May 2012, goals for funding education, scientific and technological progress, social security and employment, public health, agricultural, forestry and water resources development have been well fulfilled, and key expenditure items include funds allocated to key projects proposed by the medium and long-term education reform and development plans of the State and Shanghai Municipality, funds earmarked for promoting employment, subsidies for basic medical insurance for urban residents, and funds earmarked for river course rehabilitation.
