In August 2012, the local government expenditures of Shanghai Municipality amount to RMB 21.43 billion, 5.4% up in annual terms, or RMB 1.09 billion more than the previous year. From Jan. to Aug. 2012, the local government expenditures of Shanghai Municipality total RMB 235.55 billion, 14.5% up annually, which account for 57.1% of the government spending budget for 2012 as adjusted.
In August 2012, goals for expenditure on promoting education, science and technology, social security and employment and environment conservation have been fulfilled satisfactorily, and the key items of government spending include fund earmarked for the development of local higher education institutions, fund earmarked for the development of Zizhu National Hi-tech Innovation Park, fund earmarked for the promotion of employment, and subsidies for the promotion of energy-efficient products.
